Abstract

Fermín Toro is an obliged reference in the study of Venezuelan political thought of the XIX century as he was an exemplary citizen as a politician, writer, public servant, and journalist, among others. This article emphasizes his figure as a Member of Parliament and presents an analysis of his interventions in the National Convention of Valencia in July 1858, stressing the notions of the Republic and citizens virtues. This Convention has been described by several historians as the most important among all Conventions carried out in our country thanks to Fermín Toro’s interventions.
