Fermín Toro can be regarded as an outstanding teacher of philosophical discourse in nineteenth-century Venezuela, specifically during the period of 1830 – 1865. His work shows precision and density in his ideas. His intuitivist position served as the foundation from which to challenge the representatives of Condillac’s sensualism. Inscribed in that context Toro’s work was also influenced by Cousin’s spiritualist rationalism and Kant’s idealism which he had the opportunity to approach in academic discussions and essays.
