During the last decades, Ethnohistory, as a "bridge" disciplina between History and Anthropology, has been consolidated in international academic circles. In addition, there are -closely related- political and ethical dimensions involved. In Latin America, the political dimension refers to the ever-growing academic ethnohistorical praxis that makes emphasis on the social compromise of cognoscente subject and the role of the discipline in the description of phenomena. Ethical dimension concerns to the cognoscente subject's compromise with studied societies and phenomena. Also this dimension refers to the proper finality of the ethnohistorical thought. This essay attempts an epistemological reflection of Ethnohistory as an academic discipline, the construction of their knowledge, the role of ethnohistorical as cognoscente subject to the ethical implications.
