The current research aims to analyze the ontological and epistemological assumptions that support the methodological approaches present in the degree projects (TG) prepared by graduates of Social Communication. This presentation presents preliminary results of theoretical analyzes carried out on the justifications that must be elaborated before applying methodological procedures. Likewise, as an exploratory field phase, tables are prepared to characterize the first five (05) degree projects that were found on the UCAB “digitized thesis” page. Based on these preliminary results, the researchers affirm that the analyzed works lack several elements of the theoretical approach necessary to assume the methodological approaches, the methodology does not clarify the epistemological framework or identify the method used; Information collection instruments are used without expressly stating how the information collected is analyzed. The foregoing allows us to suppose that such a situation arises due to a lack of precision regarding the methodological approach to the research and because the theoretical aspects that support the need to clarify the theoretical-methodological approach of the research are not adequately handled. It is hoped that upon concluding a proposal will be developed that informs and guides the students who select the qualitative methodology to analyze the handling of the language of subjectivity. Keywords: theoretical aspects of the methodology, research assumptions, characteristics of degree projects.
