Abstract

The Care of the Earth, our common home, is an urgent need. Concrete actions are needed to advance a growth
model that makes life sustainable for everyone in the vast biodiversity of the planet. This reflection article
addresses the concept of sustainable development from the actions underway in the Guyana region, with the
articulation promoted by the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), Guayana extension, and its alliances
in the area. Its objective is to offer a reflection based on the contributions of collaborative research and action
strategies for the Care of the Common Home, from the work that is carried out and the studies that are being
carried out by the works of the Society of Jesus in the Guayana region of the Bolívar State in Venezuela,
highlighting its action on the phenomenon generated by the Orinoco Mining Arc Project and mega mining. It
started from the review of concepts related to the topic and its presence in the research and actions in
development as support for the identified collaborative strategies; In addition to a newspaper review of the
research and reflection articles of the Guayana Sustentable magazine, as one of the relevant sources along with
the Guayana Region Observatory portal and other sources, finding important elements towards a desirable
paradigm. As an open reflection, some proposals made by the UCAB for the training of integral leaders from the
perspective of sustainable development, supported by the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (PPI), are highlighted.
