Abstract

The contemporary communication landscape is profoundly altered by the advancement of generative Artificial Intelligence
(AI) and the consolidation of a hybrid digital ecosystem. This convergence has led to an information overload crisis and an
unprecedented amplification of disinformation. Faced with the threat of algorithmic noise, passive data consumption becomes
a direct risk to cognitive autonomy and democratic processes. The objective of this documentary research is to synthesize
theoretical frameworks to establish active listening as the fundamental human strategy and the guiding competence for the
sustained development of critical thinking and the effective mitigation of algorithmic biases. The methodology was based on
an exhaustive Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with documentary analysis, examining a select sample of articles, book
chapters, and theses (2020-2025) from high-impact databases. The main finding is the conceptualization of Strategic Auditory
Competence as a multidimensional construct, demonstrating that active listening operates as a mediation competence that
demands an indispensable transition from passive attention (hearing) towards intentional and cognitively demanding
information discernment. It is concluded that the proactive development of this skill is an indispensable pillar for advanced
media literacy. It equips the individual with the essential capacity to selectively filter noise, identify the persuasive intent of
AI-mediated content, and, ultimately, rebuild trust in the validity and ethics of communication processes.
