Proposal for Improvements for the Production Processes of a Company that Produces Domestic Cabinets, in Venezuela

Abstract

This work describes a discrete event simulation application with the purpose of increasing the utilization of the installed production capacity of a domestic cabinet factory by: reducing frequent delays in the production process due to missing or incomplete inputs. or in poor condition and the inherent variability in production scheduling methods, leading to high levels of work in progress and failure to meet delivery dates to customers. The improvements, some of them generated through tests with mathematical programming techniques and verified through simulation, resulted in an increase in average capacity of 74% as a result of different methods of scheduling work that reduce variability in the production system, without being necessary investments in equipment or additional personnel.
