Abstract

Quality Management Systems (QMS) are nowadays a strategy to promote organizational competitiveness, which allows observing the organization as a set of interrelated processes, whose ultimate goal is, among others, to achieve customer satisfaction. The objective of this article is to move the reader towards some concepts about quality management systems, the various areas of knowledge related to them, the most used continuous improvement models and their applicability in goods and services companies, in addition to knowing, throughout from the history of quality, to the pioneers and current representatives linked to the QMS, identifying public and private institutions, as well as those professionals who play an important role in developing, promoting and raising awareness in our country about Quality. Various investigations were consulted, with the purpose of analyzing current trends and how quality management systems can be implemented, regardless of the economic sector, as a key element for organizational development and the impact they have on them. Likewise, it was demonstrated how important QMS are as a transforming factor, providing an added value, which allows
increasing the level of customer or end user satisfaction. The conclusions indicate that quality management systems have evolved to relate to any area within organizations, being a driver to achieve productivity, efficiency and effectiveness in their processes. The QMS will continue to be a topic of interest for many researchers for a long time, since they have shown that they can adapt to the various situations, trends and demands of the market over time.
