Abstract
It is expected that in 2050, 85% of the world's population will live in cities.
In the coming decades, urban centers will face situations of: energy supply, CO2 emissions, mobility, provision of goods and raw materials.
In Venezuela, the growth of the Urban population is much greater than these figures, it is said that it is currently close to 85%, although this figure, which is so large and so different from that of other countries, has a lot to do with how the separation between the rural and the urban, in addition to the concentration of the population in the northern coastal strip in Venezuela.
In addition to this, the country is going through a crisis, presenting serious effects on its supplies of electricity, fuel, food, transportation, infrastructure, public services, education, among others, which makes us wonder: Is sustainability possible in these times? .
Likewise, there is a lack of knowledge at all levels of the population about sustainability issues. That is why we set out to develop the “Laboratory of Ideas on Sustainability in the City” with the purpose of, at the same time, disseminating basic knowledge on the subject, obtaining the answer to this question from the different actors who make life in the city. .
The results of this research will serve as a basis to feed the “Sustainable City – Venezuela” model, a reference guide for civil society actors and local government of the Venezuelan city.
We can definitely live in better cities, but for this to be possible it is essential that all actors in the public and private sectors and society in general commit to achieving this common goal.
