Abstract
Scientific knowledge is an asset whose real value is independent of the needs or motivations that lead to its generation. This materializes later, with the achievement of improving the quality of life for societies. This step occurs with the participation of technologists who incorporate this knowledge into improvements to products or services. The combination of detecting an opportunity for improvement together with the generation of new knowledge is what makes it possible to cover it and achieve improvement in the quality of life. At the CIDI of the UCAB, research programs are proposed and executed that generate new knowledge based on its potential application. In the last two years, 13 TG have been developed in two Research Programs on topics related, on the one hand, to reducing vulnerability to natural events and environmental pollution and, on the other hand, to improving the quality of life of the people. poorest sectors of Venezuelan society through the development of appropriate technologies to use sustainable materials such as bamboo and clay. Students who participate in CIDI projects have the opportunity to develop scientifically based knowledge and are sensitized to maintain an attitude of constant improvement.
