Abstract

The Manuelote Dam is located on the Socuy River, 100 km northwest of the City of Maracaibo, Zulia State. Its purpose is to supply drinking water to Maracaibo, the El Tablazo Petrochemical Complex and flood control. The present work describes the structures that make up this work (also known as the Socuy Reservoir), the failure process of its closing dam in the right abutment, the technical aspects that allowed detecting an underestimation of the hydrology and finally, the works that it was necessary to build for its repair.
