Child labor: review of perspectives, concepts and antecedents for the definition of research proposals in the Venezuelan context

Abstract

According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), there are approximately 250 million working children in the world. In Venezuela, there’s has been various research initiatives as well as care programs for this population that has been promoted by public and private organizations, but with poor effectiveness. In this sense, the present work aimed to deliver a review of the perspectives, concepts and previous studies on child labour, particularly in the case of Latin America and Venezuela. This can serve as a base for the recognition of a research agenda, highlighting the limitations and barriers related to the method, as well as the difficulties for structuring public policies and care programs oriented to its eradication, taking into account that if this work doesn´t incorporate a comprehensive approach with the active participation of all actors, especially the State institutions themselves, such eradication will be impossible. The visibility and in-depth analysis of a phenomenon that seems to occur in front of our noses without a real concern of the different responsible actors is a pertinent challenge of gigantic dimensions that must be faced.
