The Bicentenary of the death of the poet Meléndez Valdés (2017), a lost occasion

Abstract

We review the events celebrated on the occasion of the bicentenary of the death of the magistrate poet Juan Meléndez Valdés. We reflect on the historical memory that remains of his person and work in the 21st century. We value the initiatives in memory of Meléndez in 2017 in Extremadura and in Montpellier. Almost three years have passed and we can already take a brief balance of what the ephemeris contributed, which has its lights and shadows due to various circumstances and characters that ended up banalizing the "Homage to Meléndez".
