This paper is an attempt to decipher the economic thought of Arturo Uslar Pietri who wrote some articles related to the economy between 1932 and 1983, in his youth he participated as a professor at the Central University of Venezuela and held positions in the Senate of the time of Juan Vicente Gómez, and López Contreras and acted as minister in the government of Medina Angarita, then returned to the Senate in times of civil democracy. While teaching at the UCV he published his work Sumario de Economía Venezolana paraAlivio de Estudiantes (Summary of Venezuelan Economy for the Relief of Students), although his quotations are not very abundant, they lead to understand it from the point of view of the German Historical School. What is evident is that he was not very fond of the ideas of economic freedom, from the beginning to the end
of his life and his work invites to reflect on the origins of the thought that arises in the universities where the economics career is taught.
