The conception of citizenship culture in the city council of Chacao: conviction vs coercion

Abstract

The research was developed from the existing relationship between the conception of citizens values, the socio-cultural environment and behavior adopted by citizens, passersby and employees of the City Council of Chacao, in order to determine the factors that can in'uence it and if such behavior responds exclusively to circumstances of repressive types or on the contrary it is due to the in'uence of a context of order, adherence to standards and self-regulation. This research focused on an approach to pluralism and methodological complementary, quantitative – qualitative technique, through application of a survey of opinion about people values and interviews with key informants, and got that behavior citizen, in general, is based on values such as respect and responsibility, but not always internalized. However, this behavior relates mainly, with motivations of repressive types. Also the outcomes stands out the few participation of inhabitants of the city council can be related to lack of commitment to it.
