The exile textsbooks (J.M. Siso Martínez and the Yocoima Publisher, Venezuela - Mexico, 1949 – 1978)

Abstract

Through the history of the Yocoima Publisher, a company established in 1949 by the Venezuelan political and educators J. M. Siso Martínez and Humberto Bártoli, will be studied the most important characteristics of Venezuelan historiography and teaching of the history of Venezuela, as well as its relationship with Venezuelan political life, during the time of thirty years when they wrote and published a large number of textbooks. Between 1953 and 1958 the authors/editors developed their work in México, where they were exiled by the military dictatorship that ruled their country. "is was the period when they published their most important works, such as  Historia de Venezuela by Siso Martínez and also gave support to other Venezuelans authors in exile, such as Andrés Eloy Blanco and Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa. By analyzing all these aspects, this article highlights the importance of Yocoima
Publisher in the history of Venezuelan democratic culture.
