Unification in psychology: some notions and consideration
Abstract
The following text presents an overview of unification in psychology as a discipline. For this, the notion of crisis in is reviewed, understood as the high amount of paradigms, theories, concepts and investigations that are contradictory or incommensurable with each other, followed by the possible positions, namely; accept that state, unify or separate as a discipline. The procedures used to unify are also outlined in a general way. Subsequently, some problems facing unification in psychology are exposed, such as; pluralism, disciplinary classification, the object of study, reductionism, the use of terms, and theorization versus practice, once these problems are analyzed in the unification proposals of the last decade, which are; the System of the Tree of Knowledge, the Experimental Synthesis of Behavior and the Theory of Evolutionary Systems. It concludes with a series of recommendations in this regard.
