Magazine history

Analogías magazine was created in 1994 as a journal of scientific dissemination of the UCAB-Caracas Behavioral Research Center, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the founding of the School of Psychology of that university. Thus it is constituted as the dissemination body of both, the School of Psychology and the Behavioral Research Center. Until 2004, five numbers were published. In that year the aforementioned research center merged, together with other UCAB research centers, to form the Humanistic Research and Training Center (CIFH) and the journal became a journal exclusively of the School of Psychology. In that year number six was published and the magazine changed its name to Analogías del behavior.

It has had two directors throughout its first 20 years: Professor Andrés Miñarro, who led the magazine until 2002 and Professor Gustavo Peña from 2003 to early 2015. Both directors, together with those who made up the editorial boards and the contribution of each of the authors who have participated in any of the magazine's publications, have been key in the construction of this space for meeting, exchange and dissemination of scientific knowledge. In this sense, it is necessary to make a fair recognition of the meritorious work of those who today allow us to continue building.

In terms of its content, organization and structure, the main milestones of consolidation were observed in 1997 when the journal became refereed, considering for publication original works based on empirical and theoretical research, as well as information and dissemination articles in any area. of the behavioral sciences, thus giving great breadth to the possibilities of publication without losing its central articulating axis: "the behavior of the human being" (Balbás, 1994, 6), following the inspiration that accompanied its emergence: to become a space for dissemination and reflection in the area among national and international specialists.

Since its inception, the journal Analogías del behavior has as its objective, as stated in its mission:

"The publication of original works based on research, both empirical
as theoretical, as well as information and dissemination articles, in any area of
behavioral sciences. For the publication of articles it is required that
are evaluated by other recognized researchers, taking as a reference their
contribution, originality of data, interpretation and ideas ".

This places the journal within scientific, technical and specialized publications, aimed at an audience made up of professionals and students from areas related to behavioral sciences.

On the other hand, the year 2003 also stands out when efforts began to provide a greater structure to the publication, seeking "a common factor" that gives rise to a clear intention of thematic organization of publications from number 7 on. Thus number 7 of Analogías deals with organizational and industrial psychology; number 8 on clinical psychology; numbers 9 and 10 address issues related to methodology in behavioral sciences; number 11 was dedicated to the UCAB School of Psychology in function of its anniversary; and number 12 on behavioral analysis. Until 2011, annual numbers were published.

As of 2011, as a consequence of the problems and crisis that the country is going through,
they publish three biannual issues:
- Number 12: 2011-2012,
- Number 13: 2013-2014,
- Number 14: 2015-2016.

As of issue 14, the magazine goes digital only, as part of UCAB's editorial policies. This move to a digital format makes it possible for it to be included in international databases, and this may have as a consequence an increase in its impact and improve its status as a high-quality research journal.

As part of the celebrations of the 60 years of the UCAB School of Psychology, number 15 is published, as a special edition for the occasion and with the collaboration of Professor Kaira Gámez, guest editor and organizer of the "I Conference of History of Psychology at UCAB: 60 years of tradition and commitment to Venezuela ".

In 2016 UCAB Publications was renamed AB Ediciones and began the relaunch of all its publications and books, creating policies to digitize and standardize productions, renewing formats.

A new stage accompanies the magazine, between the years 2015 to 2018, under the direction of Professor Ana Gabriela Pérez, Director of the School of Psychology, since efforts are being made so that the publication continues with the standards of quality and excellence that characterize its previous numbers, incorporating new challenges:

(i) To become a space for the dissemination of knowledge that reflects the diversity of topics of approach and interest in the field of behavioral sciences in general and psychology in particular. In this sense, without losing its profile, it hopes to open space for scientific publications that favor the understanding of some process or phenomenon in the field of human behavior, based on the assessment of transdisciplinary approaches.

(ii) Regularize and reduce the publication interval. In this way, Analogías del Behavior is proposed to be a biannual publication.

(iii) Advance to the virtualization of its publication, indexing the journal in different international databases of recognized scientific trajectory; in order to spread the voice and proposals of the authors, being open and eager to also receive articles and information from different parts of the world.

In order to preserve the quality of Behavioral Analogies and continue the work of those who preceded us, and in accordance with the new digitalization and format standardization policies, in 2018 and under the direction of Dr. Yolanda Cañoto, the renovation and incorporation into the UCAB online journal system, always promoting the development of research talents, both of teachers and students of the school, as well as other professionals and students of psychology in Venezuela and the world. The challenge was to increase the frequency of publication and virtualize all its content, so that it is available and contributes to the development of Behavioral Sciences, both nationally and internationally.

In 2019, the publication of all previous issues of the magazine is updated and they are available in electronic format.

In 2020, a special issue was published to collect publications related to research in the new situation of pandemic and confinement by COVID-19.

It is planned that by the year 2021 the goal of making two publications and laying the foundations for the biannual publication of the magazine will be met.
