Abstract

Engineering has evolved from the use of fire in prehistory, through different historical ages, the beginnings of professional training, and the Industrial Revolution, to reaching technologies as sophisticated as Artificial Intelligence (AI), which lead us to discern its types and scope. At UCAB, the Professional Ethics chair integrated the study of this technology into engineering education through a learning strategy focused on the analysis of biases, data privacy, best practices for AI in engineering, and the reduction of geographical barriers. Furthermore, students proposed solutions to mitigate climate change, such as carbon emission monitoring and the optimization of electrical grids using AI. This experience demonstrates that current technical training is incomplete without a transversal ethical sense, ensuring that technological innovation is not only efficient but also responsible and oriented toward sustainable human development.
