Abstract

The development and implementation of new renewable energy sources is essential to supply the growing energy demand, and especially, to address the climate change crisis, but it is necessary, in turn, to propose alternatives that are easily accessible and affordable for everyone. In this sense, the aim of this work was to propose a configuration for a plant-microbial fuel cell based on the cells built in previous research carried out by different authors under the premise of generating a design that is easy to reach and manufacture. Based on this, the cells were built under the proposed configuration and using the same species as in the literature. Among them, the aloe, corn and moss plants, obtaining a maximum voltage of 587 mV, 233 mV and 884 mV respectively. In this way, the feasibility of the proposed design was verified and some key recommendations for future plant-microbial fuel cell designs were established.
