To ensure the academic integrity of the publication,Montalbán Journal uses the PlagScan application, which allows for the review of documents by detecting similarities, incorrect citations, or possible plagiarism. Every document received by the editorial committee is subjected to a similarity detection process to prevent plagiarism. After this, it moves to a selection phase and then to a peer review process.

Montalbán Journal adheres to the international standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the UCAB research ethics code. This is done to ensure transparency both in the publication of contributions and in the procedures for resolving associated conflicts.

Judgment process

In the first phase, the Editorial Committee will select articles that correspond to the thematic areas covered by the journal and that meet the essential academic requirements of a scientific article. In the second phase, the contributions will be subjected to review by two specialists in the relevant field.

Once the Editorial Committee has determined that the submission meets all the established submission requirements, the peer review process will begin.

The peer review process is conducted by external personnel outside the university. In the event of conflicting reviews, the Editorial Board will make the final decision.

Manuscripts submitted for publication in the articles section will undergo a double-blind peer review. Contributions to this section must be free of any information that could identify the author. Therefore, the author’s name and affiliation should not appear anywhere in the manuscript. References to the author’s previous work should be made in the third person.

The peer review evaluation process will take a minimum of one month and a maximum of three months. During this process, the anonymity of both authors and peer reviewers will be ensured. The peer reviewers will be academics with national or international recognition in the subject area of the manuscript. The journal uses reviewers external to the institution to guarantee the integrity of the review process.

Writings submitted for publication in the communications, essays, and reviews sections will undergo a single-blind peer review process. The Editorial Committee may provide substantive and formal recommendations to enhance the quality of the work.

Once the evaluations have been issued, the decision report will be sent to the authors; they will have no more than three weeks to submit the final version of the article with the necessary corrections. The Editorial Committee will compare the final version with the reviews and inform the authors in which issue of the journal their work will be published. Without exception, accepted contributions will undergo style correction based on the linguistic standards of the Spanish language, and their publication will depend on the availability of space in each issue. At all stages, the decision is final and unappealable.

Authors interested in submitting their contributions can consult the author guidelines available at the following link:

The authors are responsible for making the changes requested and for considering the suggestions made by the reviewers and the Editorial Committee of the journal.

Digital preservation policies

The journal uses digital preservation methods to permanently secure the intellectual content of electronic documents, maintaining their integrity, authenticity, inalterability, originality, reliability, and accessibility. To this end, the system is backed up every six months to maintain the integrity of the stored data. We also have an external hard drive where the journal's information is backed up at the same frequency as mentioned above.

Montalbán, Historical Research Journal, uses Open Journal Systems (OJS), which provides the PKP-PN tool (PKP-Preservation Network); for this journal, the respective plugin is active.

A backup of the published issues of the journal is maintained in an online repository (Drive).

Use of interoperability protocols

The journal incorporates the OAI-PMH interoperability protocol (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting), which allows its content to be harvested by other distribution systems. The metadata format used is Dublin Core.
