El Número 63 de la Revista Montalbán es el primer volumen que circula en ausencia de su fundador y Director el R.P. José del Rey Fajardo, s.j. Sin embargo, antes de partir, preparó y entregó un último artículo titulado: Los jesuitas y sus raíces., con el que abrimos este número.
El R.P. Pedro Trigo, reflexiona sobre la realidad del país y las formas de abordarla. Por su parte el Pbro. Carlos Rodríguez Souquet analiza dos memorias documentales sobre la Compañía de Jesús. Le sigue el profesor Mariano Nava quien nos acerca a la Ilustración venezolana y la Paideia colonial en el siglo XVIII, mientras que el Profesor Daniel Lahoud diserta sobre la polémica presentada en relación a la discusión del Código Civil venezolano de 1868.
El Profesor Luis Perrone nos traslada al oriente venezolano estudiando la relación entre el abogado José Grau y el Intendente José Francisco Bermúdez en el Departamento Orinoco de la “Gran Colombia”.Finalmente, en la sección de Ensayos la Profesora Gracia Salazar, nueva firma, revisa la historia de la United Fruit Company bajo la mirada del escritor Gabriel García Márquez y sus obras: Cien años de soledad y La Hojarasca. La reseña del libro del historiador Reinaldo Rojas, Cumaná en la formación del Estado-nacional, realizada por Emilio Ruíz Berrisbeitia, cierra magistralmente este número.
