Abstract

Thls aricle studies ecclesiastic divorce and the links of the
Mexican colonial society with the Church and the State. Even
though from the social and daily point of view, marriage
estrangement shows a fracture of the familiar relationship, this
study allowsto visuallze the direct intervention of the provisional
judges and general vicars in divorce trials and the control
mechanisms that these ccclesiastic authorities used to maintain
the social order and the moral of those times.
