Author Biography

Antonio Astorgano Abajo

Antonio Astorgano Abajo (1950) was Professor of Spanish Language and Literature from 1973 to 2010, when he retired. He studied Philosophy and Law at the Universities of Oviedo and the Complutense University of Madrid, where he obtained all the academic degrees. He has focused his historical and literary research, circumscribed to the period 1750-1840, related to various enlightened characters and various aspects, highlighting the literary one (Meléndez Valdés), the expelled Jesuit world, especially the Mexican one, and the last Inquisition. He has edited the Spanish Jesuit Library (1759-1799) by Lorenzo Hervás y Panduro. He is a resident member of the Aragonese Economic Society of Friends of the Country, a member of the Royal Basque Society of Friends of the Country and a member of the Royal Academy of Extremadura.
