Abstract

The year 2023 commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Pontifical Brief Dominus ac Redemptor, promulgated on July 21, 1773. This was the canonical instrument used by Pope Clement XIV to suppress the Society of Jesus in the Catholic Church. On the other hand, the year 2023 also evokes the 256 years of the expulsion of the Jesuits in Spain. In general, the intrinsic relationship that exists between the expulsion of the Jesuits in Spain and the tragic outcome that followed, such as the dissolution of the Society, is usually ignored. To change the paradigm, the facts indicated must be considered as successive acts of the same Tragedy. In this general context, we want to recall the chronology of the expulsion of the Spanish Jesuits. It is a calendar of precise and well-planned actions to the point of attracting the attention of a novice reader.
