Abstract

This article resumes Venezuelan situation in the beginning of 20th century, when Jesuits came to the country one hundred and fifty years after their expulsion. The élite despised religion and did not want a catholic high school. San Ignacio was founded 1923. Jesuit founders are named and their education purposes were created. Fifteen years later they buil a solid four-floor bulding. San Ignacio students reject the 321 decree, which affected catholic education. The article also names outstanding future personalities who studied in San Ignacio. In 1953, San Ignacio Highschool moves to new buildings in Chacao and left the old ones to the recently founded Universidad Católica Andrés Bello. Vatican II Council brought excellent changes in Catholic Church and San Ignacio tried to adopt them. New ignatian institutions are founded inside the high school, to educate based in values. All San Ignacio chancellors were registered with their time in charge and secular teachers have also occupied direction jobs. Cristo Rey religious nuns educated the youngest students. The one-hundred anniversary of San Ignacio foundation was recently celebrated with a Mass chaired by Card. Baltazar Porras Cardozo.
