In three parts, we review the significance and contributions of the hero Antonio Nariño (1765-1823), precursor of independence of New Granada over Spain and whose performance was often mired by envy and meanness of some of his contemporaries. We analyze his political proposals in two decisive moments of Colombia through two of his speeches, the opening of the Electoral College of Cundinamarca of 1813 and 1821 to the Congress of Cucuta. Surprise the validity of Nariño’s approaches and his conception of a good government, still desideratum in Latin American countries.
