Abstract

The Encyclical Letter of Pope Francis is made up of 246 numerals, distributed in an Introduction, six chapters and two sentences that serve as a corollary.1 Francis is not the first pontiff to pronounce on “the ecological question”, to put it succinctly. The first Pope to do so was Paul VI, with the encyclical Octogesima adveniens, of May 14, 1971. John Paul II followed him with numerous explosions; finally, Benedict XVI joined this cast with the encyclical Caritas in veritate, of June 29, 2009.
