https://revistasenlinea.saber.ucab.edu.ve/index.php/revistamontalban/article/view/7403

To understand Ayacucho is not only to understand a war event; nor to analyze the implicit and explicit war culture; nor to categorize the confrontation according to troop movements, or according to the strategic position adopted. Ayacucho is, by itself, nothing more than a cruel and bloody battle that did not come to decide anything, but to confirm what was already decided before: the loss of the possessions of the Iberian monarchy in the American territory that would be completed with the elimination of any resistance after Tumusla in April 1825 and, definitively, in Vallegrande in 1828.
Justo Cuño Bonito

https://revistasenlinea.saber.ucab.edu.ve/index.php/revistamontalban/article/view/7404

This article explores the memorial and political stakes surrounding the commemoration of the battle of Ayacucho (1824), emphasizing its importance as a republican symbol and a site of both national and transnational memory. By focusing on three key historical moments – the immediate celebration, the centenary, and the sesquicentennial – it illustrates how the memory of the battle has been reinterpreted within the national narratives of Colombia and Peru, shaped by political and diplomatic needs. The text also
highlights how memorial issues have intertwined with international tensions arising from border conflicts at various points during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Roger Pita Pico, Daniel Emilio Rojas Castro

https://revistasenlinea.saber.ucab.edu.ve/index.php/revistamontalban/article/view/7405

The purpose of this contribution is to present an analytical description of the battle of Ayacucho, from a purely military point of view. In order to achieve this aim, I will divide the work into three parts. The first part will describe the movements prior to the battle from October 4 to November 6, 1824. The second part will be destined to the description of the fact of arms including the study of the terrain, the plans of both contenders and the combat operations themselves. Finally, by way of conclusion, the corresponding analysis will be carried out..
Fernando Falcón

https://revistasenlinea.saber.ucab.edu.ve/index.php/revistamontalban/article/view/7407

In the centennial celebrations of the Battle of Ayacucho, the Catholic bishops in Venezuela participated actively in both national and international events. These lines will try to present some relevant facts of such performance, while recalling some anecdotes of what happened in those days of deep national sentiment.
Pbro. Carlos A. Rodríguez Souquet

https://revistasenlinea.saber.ucab.edu.ve/index.php/revistamontalban/article/view/7409

This paper describes and analyzes the first commemoration of the triumph obtained by General Antonio José de Sucre at the Battle of Ayacucho on December 9, 1824, an event held on June 24, 1825, in his hometown, Cumaná, capital of the Orinoco Department of "Gran Colombia" (historically the Republic of Colombia). Taking into account the precepts and findings of other studies on ceremonies dedicated to military victories, we undertake a critical examination from a political standpoint of the festivity, seeking to strip it of any epic or romantic condition, focusing on several unexpected and imprudent acts carried out by some characters, including the Intendant of the Department, General José Francisco Bermúdez, and other members of the ecclesiastical and social elite, as recorded by direct witnesses of the commemoration. These acts, we suppose, were inspired by personal and political convictions that even questioned the supposed intellectual and institutional foundations of a republic. We conclude that historical claims that tend to overestimate the effectiveness of commemorations to unify peoples based on a single idea or sentiment, such as the cult of heroes and their exploits, should be taken with caution.
Luis Daniel

https://revistasenlinea.saber.ucab.edu.ve/index.php/revistamontalban/article/view/7410

This article offers a detailed historiographic review that allows us to know the extensive bibliography referring to the life and work of Juan Vicente González and his contribution in various fields: writer, historian and political polemicist. Studies on the character date back to the end of the XIX century with the work of Felipe Tejera who met Juan Vicente González at the end of his life. Intellectuals of recognized trajectory have ventured into his voluminous work, providing a varied arsenal of valuable information that makes possible an incursion into the cultural and socio-political environment of a time (1810-1866) and into the actions of a man moved by his time who he became a passionate censor of the historical plot that marked his days.
Migdalia Lezama

https://revistasenlinea.saber.ucab.edu.ve/index.php/revistamontalban/article/view/7411

This study analyzes the political ideas of Andrés Aurelio Level de Goda (1777-1856), a lawyer born in Cumaná, eastern Venezuela. Being a “gaditan” liberal, he embraced the cause of the Monarchy during the Venezuelan independence war. Three different moments and writings of his life are analyzed, highlighting his federal vision: the Venezuelan First Republic, the reinstatement in 1820 of the Cádiz Constitution (of 1812), and facts related to The Cosiata and the Reformas, when he reintegrates himself into the political life of Venezuela. His “regional” point of view (from Eastern Venezuela) signaling that even though he was a loyal monarchist, in the republican Venezuela he manifests himself as an ardent liberal and federalist. His ideas and writings reflect the rich political debate of the period, silenced by the polarization of the war.
Emilio Luis Berrizbeitia Aristeguieta
