HISTORIA CULTURAL DEL FONDO ANTIGUO DE LA BIBLIOTECA CENTRAL DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE LOS ANDES (LIBROS DE LOS SIGLOS XVI Y XVII)

Los estudios históricos sobre libros y bibliotecas en Venezuela, han sido abordados con cierto interés por parte de distintos investigadores desde los inicios del siglo XX hasta la actualidad. Sin embargo, las carencias teóricas de los aportes realizados han limitado el desarrollo de reflexiones críticas acerca de una temática íntimamente relacionada a la historia cultural de nuestro país. En tal sentido, resulta necesario emprender investigaciones cuyos propósitos sean generar aportes críticos en este campo, razón por la cual, el presente estudio intenta realizar una reconstrucción histórica sobre los procesos que dieron lugar a la conformación del fondo de libros antiguos que existe actualmente en la Biblioteca Central “Tulio Febres Cordero”, de la Universidad de Los Andes (Mérida-Venezuela), a través de perspectivas y técnicas interdisciplinarias. Asimismo, luego de realizar un análisis historiográfico amplio sobre los libros y las bibliotecas entendidos como objetos de investigación histórica, se examinan las características bibliográficas y editoriales de dicho fondo antiguo a partir de perspectivas historiográficas culturalistas y latinoamericanistas, con el fin de proporcionar reflexiones críticas sobre la trascendencia de dichas colecciones.

Abstract:

The historical studies about books and libraries in Venezuela have been approached with some interest by different researchers from the early twentieth century to the present. However, the theoretical shortcomings of the contributions made have limited the development of critical reflections on a subject closely related to the cultural history of our country. In this regard, it is necessary to undertake research whose purpose is to generate critical contributions in this field, which is why this study attempts to make a historical reconstruction of the processes that led to the creation of the fund of ancient books that currently exists in the Central Library “Tulio Febres Cordero”, from the University of Los Andes (Mérida-Venezuela), through perspectives and interdisciplinary techniques. Likewise, after carrying out a broad historiographic analysis about books and libraries understood as objects of historical research, the bibliographic and editorial characteristics of said ancient background are examined from historiographical culturalist and Latin Americanist perspectives, in order to provide critical reflections on the transcendence of said collections.
