En el municipio Caroní, se ha detectado que existe una gran
necesidad
de formación para la atención de niños con trastornos neurológicos.
En
las escuelas, los maestros necesitan conocer las diferentes
conductas,
manifestaciones y formas de abordar y tratar los casos especiales.
Muchas
instituciones
educativas requieren formar su personal para aprender
a
trabajar con la
diversidad.
Todavía existe mucho desconocimiento en torno a las cifras, características,
tipo de atención que se ha de dispensar a niños con síndrome de
Dowm,
autisrno, niños con trastorno por déficit de atención e
hiperactividad
(TADH).
Datos
suministrados
por el Dr
Gudiño,
dan cuenta del
alarmante
incremento de las cifras de niños
diagnosticados
con autismo; de
cada
110 niños que nacen, uno de ellos lo
padecerá
De cada 100 niños,
entre
10 y 17 presentarán TADH.
Entre los factores de riesgo para sospechar enfermedades neurológicas
en
niños, se destacan: embarazos en niñas menores de 15 años, drogadicción,
VIH, uso de
ciertos medicamentos
por parte de las
embarazadas,
que afectan el desarrollo normal del feto, retardo mental o
trastornos
psiquiátricos
de los padres, falta de control
prenatal.
El rnunicipio Caroní, requiere mayor cantidad de médicos
especialistas
en neurología infantil, así como de centros de atención con servicios de
rehabilitación, terapia ocupacional, terapistas de lenguaje,
fisioterapeutas,
psicopedagogos, entre otros. En el caso de Mundo de Sonrisas, este es
un
centro de salud diseñado para ofrecer tratamiento a niños con
necesidades
especiales, pero no es un centro de
diagnóstico.
Los padres necesitan información y formación para identificar señales de
alerta, así como conocer las diferentes instituciones en donde pueden llevar
a sus hijos, y a qué tipo de
especialistas
pueden acudir en
instituciones
de carácter público o privado.
